Diapers schmipers

So, as if making decisions as a parent doesn't take enough of your brain cells already, the diaper companies definitely do not make it any easier. When little Mira was a wee lad, the only diaper that worked were Pampers. They seemed to fit her tiny little body the best. We tried Huggies, and I think Luvs, but none worked quite as well. Speaking of Luvs, there is a funny story to go along with that. When Mira was less than two weeks old, Abe changed a poopy diaper in the middle of the night. I was thinking it was a Huggies diaper, but he now says it was Luvs. Either way, the conversation went something like this:

Abe: "When she poops, those stupid diapers leak all over the place."
Me: Tired silence (seriously, it's the middle of the night).
Abe: "So don't use the one's with poo on them!"
Me: Internal thought, why would I use a diaper that already has poo on it???
Me: Lightbulb moment...Oh..."Winnie the Pooh??"
Abe: "Yes!"

It wasn't funny at the time, but I told him about the conversation a couple of days later and we couldn't stop laughing. It still cracks me up.
Ok, back to my original story. So, once Mira got a little bigger we were able to start using Huggies and they have worked well. Good thing since Pampers are the most expensive diaper out there. Anyway, we were doing great with her not leaking at night, so we bought more Huggies. Then I started to notice when she would wake up for her 5 a.m. feeding, she was completely soaked all the way up to her neck! Her neck, people! That is not okay with me, especially since she screams like you're pinching her when you change her diaper during the night, let alone change her entire outfit. So, I knew something was up because it's not like she was eating any extra. I finally figured out that the last batch of Huggies we had bought said "cuddle weave" on them. Hmmm, what the heck does that mean??? I also remembered that the diapers felt different than the other Huggies we had been using. So, I checked the diapers and noticed they have a lot of absorbant padding in the middle towards the front, but hardly anything in the back. For a girl who sleeps on her back, that is not a good option. The Huggies "cuddle weave" would be great for a boy or a tummy sleeping girl, but not so great for the rest of the little girls. Anyway, we of course switched back to the "Leak Lock" Huggies, and everything has been nice and dry ever since. Sheesh, it's like they try to make things harder than they need to be. Can we just sell one type of diaper please because I'm pretty sure the Leak Lock Huggies would work for every baby, not just a back sleeping baby girl.

In other news, Mira had her 6 month check-up today. She weighs 13 pounds 11 ounces. Aww, she is a tiny little thing! Which, by the way, random people like to tell me about as if I didn't know. Now that Mira is sitting in the shopping cart, she gets A LOT of attention (who can resist her sweet smile and dashing blue eyes???). So, we often get asked how old she is and then get the comment "she's so tiny!". Really? Because I hadn't noticed. The greeter at Wal-Mart the other day said how tiny she was and then made a comment about how she must have been tiny at birth. I commented that she was 7 pounds at birth, and then the woman said, "Oh, I guess she's just going to be petite then." Um, do you see her mom, because I'm standing right here. I mean, it doesn't bother me that she's tiny, in fact, she's a lot easier to carry around, and it clearly is hereditary. I promise I feed her (all the time!) and she eats cereal, veggies, and fruits like they're going out of style (except this week she has decided she doesn't need to eat as much. What's up with that? Did anyone else's babies have a week where they ate less??) What bothers me is that people act like it's a bad thing, or maybe it just bothers me that they think they need to comment on her smallness (by the way she is in the 50th percentile for length, so it's not like she's short). I guess I just need to expect that people are going to comment on her size and I don't have to feel bad about it. Besides, she gets many more comments on her cuteness, so I need to leave it at that.

All righty, lets get to the fun stuff!!!
Her favorite toy...mommy's cell phone. I mean, I'm pretty sure she takes after her daddy, because the girl loves anything electronic...the laptop (which she loves to type on), the remote control, cell phone. And it's not like we use these things often so she wants them because of that, she just likes things with buttons apparently. Too bad they don't make a sippy cup look like a cell phone...

Playing with mommy's scarf...
Trying to hide under mommy's scarf...

Oh yes, and she also loves the dogs. She thinks they are hi-larious. All they do is sniff her and she cracks up. She also thinks it's funny if I pant in her face like the dogs do.

Cute pictures! I sniff Hazel like a dog to "find the good sugar" and then kiss her to pieces. She loves it. I'm glad there's another mother out there playing dog games with her child...

I know how you feel about people's comments regarding Mira's size. As soon as Hadley came out everyone kept saying how big she was...the nurses even compared her as a "big baby" and how that meant she'd eat more and therefore sleep more. I know they were meaning it as a good thing, but all I hear is she's a "big girl". I mean, I know she's not itty bitty...but come on! She's not a giant! I guess it just goes to show that it doesn't matter what you say to a new mother...she's going to get annoyed!

P.S. LOVE the OSU outfit, by the way!

Aw, sweet sweet Mira...and she is such a tiny thing!!!
(haha, I just wanted to say that, in light of the post)
Umm, that's kind of weird about the diaper situation...why do they need to make 18 different types of each diaper brand?? How about one that works and leave it at that.
Malak went through a phase where he would be pee soaked from head to toe EVERY NIGHT. It was driving me crazy- so we stopped night feedings, cold turkey and he's been dry ever since. Sweet! (luckily he didn't seem to mind that we stopped the bottles at night)
