Not Demanding

So, my mom has commented several times that Mira is not a demanding baby. I wasn't quite sure what she meant by that. I mean, I knew she wasn't overly fussy and doesn't cry a lot (except for when she's naked, and who doesn't cry then anyway?), but I didn't exactly know what that meant. Now I do. We had our two week pediatrician appointment today and sweet little Mira was down to 6 pounds 4 ounces! They are supposed to be back up to birth weight by two weeks old! My poor sweet child has been hungry! But, she is so not demanding that we didn't know she was still hungry after feedings! The pediatrician sent us over to "lactation" after our appointment to check on how nursing was going. I was a little confused by that because she does so well at latching and eating. But, I didn't realize how crafty those little lactation consultants can be. They weighed Mira before I fed her (Praise the Lord it was perfect timing for her to eat again by then!) and then they weighed her after she ate to see how much she was getting. She got close to an ounce of food and she's supposed to have 2.5 ounces at each feeding! My poor sweet little girl has been hungry for two weeks! Waaaa! So, we're on a new schedule. Good-bye to the days of six hours of sleep in a row (oh yes, last night she slept six hours straight...it was glorious). The new schedule: feed, supplement, pump...three hours later: feed, supplement, pump...and repeat over and over until Tuesday when we go back for a weight check. Yes, this sounds a little daunting, especially the thought of pumping in the middle of the night. Do you know how long all these things take to complete??? Yes, I will soon (hopefully!!) be a milk factory. Apparently I'm just not making enough yet. So...pray for milk...

Oh no! The one time you wish for a baby that would cry some more! :-) Little Mira was TOO laid back!

Happy belated birthday, Gina! I have trouble believing you are 30, but if you say so...

It is kinds like "pray for rain" but pray for milk. I shall pray that the Lord rains down upon you gallons of milk. (and that sounds sick)
Poor little baby girl! All is well now though- at least you toughened her up! She probably needed a little tough love....

or not.

Tough love for a baby Tara? Geesh, wheres Tara's heart?

I am sorry baby Mira lost weight! It sounds like with your new rigorous routine she will gain weight in no time!

Missed you at lunch today.... You were probably either feeding, supplementing, or pumping.
Can we say exhaustion?

Hey Gina - Congratulations to you & Abe for your sweet & beautiful little Mira! =) I had been talking to Abe about how we were looking for a house church - Clint's passion is Africa & after Impact Sunday, we actually stumbled on to the one you both go to. (I found that out later)..but I just wanted to encourage you. BFing is hard work. You're doing a great job.

In the beginning I was told to feed Jonas every 2 hours regardless of how often he demanded to be fed. I was a zombie, but it helped increase my supply and it insured that he had enough to eat. I was also told to pump directly after each feeding. This was really frustrating, because it was a little painful and hardly anything came out, but I did it anyway & voila! My cup runneth over. I just wanted to let you know...these tips might come in handy.

Have a blessed day!
