On My Mind

Things on my mind lately:

  • Mira has some new loves.  One of them is painting.  It's something we did a lot before we had our old house on the market.  I just dug the paints out of one of the boxes that seem to multiply by the day waiting to be unpacked.  She is very proud of her creations and has perfected seven-ish masterpieces in the last two days.
  • She also loves to sing and dance.  Sing and dance.  Sing and dance.  Sing and dance.  She now has her own song, as do the rest of us.  It goes something like this: "back up into Mira's room, back up into Mira's room, back up into Mirrrrrrraaaaa's room".  She asks me to sing this song so we can dance together.  What, you don't sing this song to your kids?  It randomly came about one day when she was standing in her doorway and I wanted her to back up into her room so we could change her diaper.  I started singing the words to be funny and get her to cooperate and she immediately started dancing.  What's a mom to do?  We had a dance party in her room.  And the tradition begun...and continues.  Now we all have the same song, insert mommy, daddy, or Isaiah.
  • Today when Mira got up from her nap, we had a graham cracker snack.  Graham crackers are as delicious now as I remember them being as a kid.  Mira suddenly realized she hadn't seen her brother and asked about him.  I explained he was asleep and asked if she missed him.  She looked at me very seriously and stated, "miss daddy".  So very cute.
  • On Sunday, we had a get together at our house to celebrate Abe's sister's birthday.  Mira was sitting on Abe's lap drinking some milk.  She reached back without looking and felt Abe's clean shaven face.  She paused before feeling again and said, "like your face, daddy".
  • Mira adores her daddy.  And for that I am eternally thankful.  Abe is the best daddy a wife could ask for in a husband.  He is so patient and kind and loving.  He gives baths and thinks our kids are the cutest kids on the planet.  He's awesome.
  • Isaiah is cutting two teeth.  I don't remember the process taking so long!  He is handling it well, but not eating as much as he normally does.  Which means when he gets up for his one night feeding, I have to provide him with a bottle in addition to nursing him.  He's a sweet, sweet little guy.
  • Isaiah has been eating cereal for about a month, and this week I introduced carrots (organic carrots that I made into baby food.  Proud of that accomplishment!).  He did the typical "what in the world did you just put in my mouth???" face.  I try to mix the carrots with the cereal so it's not such a shock.  Today he seemed okay with the addition.
  • A homestudy family complained that I had them fill out too much information.  My boss emailed me to say there have been some confidentiality concerns with the case and the DHS supervisors are discussing whether I will continue to receive cases to complete.  Without asking my side of the story, they made these decisions.  I, of course, defended myself and provided emails to back myself up.  I received a much nicer email thanking me for providing my side of the story (which they should have asked for in the first place).  I also pointed out that the supervisor's supervisor and I have worked together previously when I worked as a counselor and that she should be able to provide information regarding my work ethic and character.  All this made for a stressful day.
  • We had a yummy dinner tonight at Saturn Grill.  It proved to us that Isaiah needs to be in bed by 7:30, or else fussyness ensues.  I'm thankful he has an early bedtime and is consistent with it even if it means no more 7:00 pm dinners out of the house.  However, I enjoyed my portobello mushroom sandwich and chocolate cupcake. Yum!
  • I'm thankful that my sweet friend, Deena and her hubby are back from spending nine months in Russia.  I love that I can hear her voice on the phone and text her rather than relying on email and blog technology (which I've been very thankful for while she was gone! Especially with all the disasters that happened while they were there.)  If only I could talk them into moving to OKC from Kansas City.  Then my life would be complete...as soon as I talk my friend April into moving to OKC from Dallas.  The day those two feats are accomplished is the day I will be the happiest woman on the planet.
  • Tonight I'm wearing this cute necklace.  I won it here.  She's currently giving away a super-cute ring.  You should enter!  I would, but I figure what are the chances of winning twice?
The end.

Yeah for the update! It gave me a nice reason to visit your blog other than just linking to your friends that I stalk sometimes... Can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks (and return your tupperware). Oh, and if you're starting a petition or something for Deena to move here, I'll be first in line.

Julie-You stalk some of Gina's friends? So do I! Small world.
Gina-Loved the update as well! Gald you got the work situation all figured out. Can't believe they would jump to conclusions like that. And I am so happy you have a doting papa with kiddos who love him.
